The Demons ventured to Salisbury North for the local derby minus the 13 injured players, plus the two reported players, plus 5 of the u18s that we rested due to their Grand Final the next day. By the way they pumped Hope Valley by 7 goals, well done boys...The first quarter of our game was open flowing football, goal for goal stuff and our inability to finish off some very easy shots cost us the lead at 1/4 time. In the second quarter we lost our skipper due to his body finally succumbing and was further impeded by Sammy J who got severe cramping (he also played b grade due to shortage of numbers). Salisbury North blew us off the park in the second quarter and in the 3rd following some unsavoury incidents we got touched up again. 3 sent off players and two injured players prevented us from getting back into the game. In the last quarter with 16 players and an injured player sitting in the pocket we stopped the rot and was only outscored by two goals. Best players on a dismal day were, Adrian Wilson at CHB, CHF (played on one leg for last quarter), Daniel Starr gave us a strong focal point at CHF, Ricky Butler onball, Chris Lewis on the wing, Tim King also played well. Tough day in to office and one more effort required to take on Gepps Cross away next week. We will get all the 18s and up to 4 normal a graders back so lets go down there and finish off with a win. Yours in footy Dusty.

Our final home game v Broadview presented itself on a windy overcast day, Broadview were sitting fifth one game clear of the pack and our focus was to get off the bottom of the ladder and finish the season off with some pride. From the outset it was clear that the game was going to be high scoring, Broadview set the tone early but due to a brilliant quarter from Shaun Gatto the Dees were only one goal down at the first break. In the second quarter both sides continued to attack at will and due to some poor umpiring and ill discipline our 3 goal lead was dwindled back to one goal at the main break. We lost Matty Paul for the game due to an indiscretion and played one player short for 10 minutes. In the 3rd quarter we settled back into playing football and began to take control of the game, Broadview did just enough to stay in the contest and at 3/4 time we lead by 2 goals. Unfortunately we lost Ricky O for the game and played another 10 minutes with 17 players. The Dees stamped their authority in the last and got out to a 6 goal lead and Broadview kicked 2 goals, the Dees running out comfortable winners by 22 points. Best players were Ricky Butler who roved most of the day and kicked 4 goals, Shaun Gatto once again displayed his silky skills, Adrian lead the backline solidly all day, his ability to not only get the footy, but set up scoring opportunities with his delivery was exceptional, big Heater rucked all day without any change - great effort Heater, Jack Fergus played his best game in seniors topping it of with 4 goals, Keeno found some form and set the forwards up with some quality disposals, Chris Lewis played his best game for some time, some of his 1%ers were inspiring. Great effort boys, two weeks to go so lets take this form and attitude into the final two games. Yours in footy Dusty.

The Under 18s, today booked themselves a spot in the Grand Final after downing Golden Grove today in the preliminary final played at Harper's Field.  In the wet and slippery conditions both teams struggled to put good passages of play together.  Golden Grove had the bulk of the play in the first half but inaccuracy in front of goal was to cost the home side in what was a low scoring affair. The Demons showed more intensity in the second half and kept Golden Grove all but scoreless to come away with the win. The Final score EPFC 5.6 36 to GGFC 2.5 17.  Well Done Demons!!

Congratulations to our Under 18 side who defeated Salisbury West in the Elimination final at Dwight reserve today.  The game was tight all day but the young Demons stuck to it to come away with a one goal win, Eastern Park 13-4 (82) to Salisbury West 12-4 (76).  Well done Boys!!

The Demons journeyed out to Klemzig Oval to tackle the top of the table Gaza, a daunting task to say the least. From the outset we were outgunned in most positions, the coaching staff endeavoured to shut their prime movers down, and as we did other players stood up and our lack of experience stood out. At 1/4 time Gaza had scored 6 goals to our nil and in the second quarter it was much the same, Gaza smashed us all over the ground and at 1/2 time they were 13 goals to our poultry one. At half time we decided to go back to basics and line up in a more standard positional way, and leave players accountable for their opposition, it seemed to work and we actually outscored them in the 3rd quarter. In the last quarter we held them at bay for the first 15 minutes then let them go for the last part. In the end the margin was just over a hundred points and now unfortunately we will be relegated to Div2 for season 2012. Better players on the day were inspirational leader Shaun Gatto, Adrian Wilson, Alan Harvey, Matty Paul and young Feasty continues with his development. This week we have a much needed bye, freshen up and hopefully get the Army boys back from QLD and have a final 3 week launch against sides we can beat and get off the bottom of the ladder. Yours in footy Dusty

Given our positions on the ladder, the weekends game was a mini final for both clubs, the winner would still have a glimmer of hope of remaining in Div1 and the loser, although mathematically possible, highly unlikely to remain. From the outset it was evident that our minds weren't on the game. If not for the efforts of Shauny Gatto in the 1st quarter, the 8 point deficit would have been a lot more. In the second quarter as hard as we tried, everything we tried failed, we constantly turned the ball over and our inside 50s were repelled with ease. We were chasing tails for most of the 1st half. In the 3rd quarter we threw everything at them but once again our inability to put scoreboard pressure was killing us. We had most of the ball but just couldn't buy a goal and it seemed that every time they went forward they kicked goals. In the last quarter, as hard as we tried once again nothing went to plan and we ended up losing by 10 goals. It was so disappointing for our supporters to witness what we dished up, the players and coaching staff left TTG with our tails between our legs feeling empty. 5 games remaining and lets tough it out and we still hope to win a couple of games. Goody Saints at home this week, they will be on a high after beating undefeated Gaza on weekend, a huge challenge for our young group. Yours in footy Dusty.

The much anticipated clash of last years div 2 grand finalists presented itself on Saturday. PHOS smashed us down there earlier in the year and some unsavoury incidents remained within the Demons who were chomping a the bit to win this game and keep the glimmer of hope alive....The first quarter was a tight affair, both sides testing each other out and we lead marginally at 1/4 time. In the second quarter we came out and blew the game apart, we kicked 7 goals to one to lead by 30 odd points at the main break. In the 3rd, they got a roll on and did enough to be in touch at 3/4 time. They continued to dominate the game and got one goal up and we had come to a grinding halt. Then from the clouds, the boys found some much needed resolve and toughed it out, we hit the front and won by 18pts which coincidentally was the same margin we beat them by in last years Grand Final. Great gritty win by the boys, we've found a bit of form at last and now need to beat TTG this weekend. The loser of this game will need a miracle to stay in Div one so its another mini final for us. Best players in a great team effort were Adrian Wilson who continues with his stellar form, Shaun Gatto produced another inspiring captains effort, Ricky Butler had the ball on a string and dominated possessions at the stoppages, Ricky O'Loughlin gave us much needed focus up forward, Matty Paul and the entire backline were solid as rocks and our younger brigade continue to mature. The Demons faced the almighty Sacred Heart at Demonland, they were sitting in 2nd spot and hoping to consolidate their position and little did they know what was about to hit them. From the outset, Heater won most taps and fed the onball brigade of Shauny, Alex and Butts and through their solid work we jumped out of the blocks and kicked 6 goals to one in the first quarter. In the second quarter they got themselves back into the game and at half time we lead by 15 points. In the all important 3rd quarter neither side could take control of the game, it was a battle of the defences and at 3/4 time the lead was still 15 points with them kicking to the scoring end. The first 20 minutes was goal for goal and with 4 minutes to go they kicked a goal to trail by 9 points. Both backlines were under the pump, with Wilbur, Matty, Harves, Benny, Daniel and Mozza all saving our bacon on many occasions. In the end the boys got two very important clearances and Ricky O took control with two crucial marks and two goals to seal the deal. Great win by the boys, it gave us much needed hope and hopefully instilled the winning feeling again. If we put 4 solid quarters together like that, we are capable of winning enough games to stay where we belong. Well done boys, great team effort. Best players were Wilbur was solid as a rock all day at CHB, he was ably supported by Matty Paul who has found some much needed form. The entire onball team of Shaun, Butts and Alex won their positions and provided our forwards with ample opportunities. Heater dominated the rucks and fed the onballers all day. Yours in footy Dusty

Our last game of the first round presented itself at home v Salisbury North. The Dees had a good week on the track and were quietly confident of winning our first game. From the outset it became evident that once again we seemed to be out of our depth, the opposition was much cleaner with the footy and ran a lot harder than we did. They used the football a lot better and their ability to find space on our small oval was frustrating. Our inability to hit targets, run with opposition players and reluctance to basically man up when we not in possession was terrible. Up until this game all our losses have been commendable but this one was unacceptable. As difficult as it is, we have a minority who are too focussed on themselves and lack basic discipline. The basics I'm talking about are getting sucked into umpiring the game/disputing decisions, late tackles when they cant get to the contest and bad mouthing team members. Everyone in the club is under no false illusions with where we are at and what we have, we need to tough this out as a group and everyone needs to contribute, we cannot afford to have players turn up not willing to give their all, regardless of what the scoreboard is saying. We are more than capable of causing a couple of upsets in the next few weeks and then come home with a string of wins. Best players last week were Alex Haughey, Shaun Gatto, Shawn Mansell, Adrian Wilson and Luke Feast. Yours in footy Dusty

    Football 30-05-11
The Demons headed out to Broadview oval for the clash with the tigers and like most first quarters both teams attacked the footy and went forward at will, the Dees lead for most of the quarter mainly due to their poor finishing and some solid pressure from our boys. The second quarter was similar to the first, goal for goal until Broadies kicked away by a few then the Dees pegged them back but were down a goal at 1/2 time. In the 3rd quarter the game opened up and every time they looked like taking control the Dees came back and did more than enough to stay in touch, we actually got our noses in front just before 3/4 time and a huge last quarter was required. Broadies took the initiative and started to take control but the Demons hung in there to lose by 28 pts. Our injury numbers are taking toll, we had 13 players who have played a senior game this year unavailable due to injury, so the boys are toughing it out under horrible circumstances. Their commitment and application cannot be questioned and this week we hope to get a few back and get a much needed win in front of our families and supporters. Best players were Heath Moloney who dominated the rucks without respite all day. Ricky Butler was our highest possession gatherer again, Shaun Gatto dominated whether on ball or down forward, Adrian Wilson straightened us up all day, Jaron Bourke continues to develop and improve and Shawn Mansell gave his normal excitement. Yours in footy Dusty

    Football 24-05-11
A blustery wintery day confronted the Demons at home v Gepps X. This game was like a mini final with both sides being competitive but struggling to stay in touch with the more fancied teams. Shaun won the toss and we needed to apply heavy scoreboard pressure with probably a four to five goal breeze. The boys went into our forward 50 on numerous occasions, and at 1/4 time we lead 4.4 to 0.7..In the second quarter we played a loose in defence which limited our own scoring opportunities but it worked out and at half time we lead by 13 points. In the 3rd quarter we needed to break the game open and then slow the game down against the breeze in the last. Both sides kicked goals at will and the margin hadn't changed at all and we faced the daunting task of hanging on kicking to the non scoring end. Half way through the quarter we opened up a 4 goal lead but Gepps kept coming and in the end kicked 5.1 with the breeze to our 2.6 into the breeze, a loss by two points. Nobody could question the boys commitment, losing our fullback and full forward halfway thru the first quarter decimated our structure, plus limiting our bench to one player. Best players were Alex Haughey continues his stellar season, Jack Fergus showed maturity beyond his age, Shawn Mansell got smashed all day but kept getting up and gave us much needed ground cover up forward, Adrian Wilson provided his normal presence up forward, Ricky Butler had the ball on a string again and Shaun Gatto battled hard albeit underdone due to having the flu all week.. This week we travel to Broadview and our focus will be on winning our first game. Yours in footy Dusty

"WHERE ARE THE TRUE DEMON SUPPORTERS"

As President of the Eastern Park Football Club I am appalled and dismayed at the lack of support we are receiving from our members and supporters of our proud club particularly with our senior sides this year. Are we a mob of front runners who only want to support our club when we are winning and only prepared to put your hand up to do something around the club if you get paid. Our juniors have support from parents doing boundary & goal umpire duties, team manager & ground marshal roles, have coaches and support staff who all do it for the love it and then offer incentives for their sides as well.

Where are the offers of assistance from our "TRUE DEMON SUPPORTERS", yes we get patronage through bar & canteen sales but some do not even give us that. Bringing your own drinks etc to the games is now more common place that I have ever seen before. Do I have a right to complain, probably not, do I purchase food and drinks for my family from the club when we are there for seniors or juniors, yes I certainly do. Does that make me better than others, absolutely not but I do appreciate that every little bit will keep our club afloat and provide a future for our juniors as well.

All of our executive are trying to do football roles (as well as our club committee duties) that we have not received any offers of assistance with I.e. team manager, timekeeper, interchange steward, match day official, scoreboard attendant, setting up change rooms & umpires room, oval set up before & after the game. We have executives involved in coaching, trainers duties, collecting fees, selling winning margin tickets and the list goes on. Then we get "We should have the BBQ up and going", give me strength. Where are the "TRUE DEMON SUPPORTERS" when the club needs you most. Dusty does have "A" grade assistant coaches, a great team manager who does more than he should, a runner who is new to the club and one junior who runs water all day. We have two trainers and a part timer who do what they can and between them look after 42 players. Richard has one person in the "C" grade. Marty has "B" grade team manager that was only supposed to fill in until we found someone to do the role, gets a runner if he is lucky and has the same junior running water who does the "A" grade.

We then have unquestionably the most disgusting and embarrassing series of events last Saturday that the club has been involved in for years. Fights, bottles thrown, police intervention, injured players getting involved and others including women & junior players inflaming the situation. Again left to a few to try and sort out and left to speak to police. Not only was this in front of GAZA people who now justifiably consider us to be a laughing stock but sadly some of own parents had brought children to the footy so see their heroes. Not only were they dismayed to see such behaviour they were then subjected to filthy language and abuse directed at the umpires from our own people. We must be so proud of ourselves. Again I ask,

The daunting task of playing the undefeated Gaza presented itself on Saturday and from the outset it was going to be a long day. The Demons were very competitive for the first 10 minutes then a few of the players attention drifted to the scuffle on the hill, in that space of time Gaza banged on 5 unanswered goals to lead by 5 at 1/4 time. In the second through some hard work by Butts, Shaun G and Alex we got back into the game and were only 2 goals down with 5 minutes to go. Gaza put the foot down and banged on 6 goals in as many minutes to lead by 8 at 1/2 time. In the 3rd quarter we were once again competitive but couldn't apply scoreboard pressure, the lead increased and in the last quarter we once again had our fair share of the ball but struggled to capitalise. Their ball movement from their backline up forward was the dominating factor, our boys once again tried their hearts out but in the end we were beaten by a very good football team. Best players on the day were Ricky Butler who is having a great season, Alex Haughey once again had a cracking game, Ian Williamson played very well in his first game, Adrian Wilson continues to lead from the front with his never say die attitude, Heath and Matty toiled hard in the ruck all day,. This weekend we face Gepps X at home, a must win if we have any chances of survival. Yours in footy Dusty

The daunting task of fronting Goody Saints on their home turf confronted the Demons on Saturday. The first quarter was a close in affair, both sides defences stood tall and at 1/4 time there was only one kick in the contest.  In the 2nd quarter the Demons took control of the game and displayed some much needed grit and the skill level was probably the best we've seen all year.  Our play on brand of football caught Goody out and at 1/2 time we held a much deserved 10 point lead.  At half time we spoke about resting on our laurels and becoming complacent, we knew they would come out guns blazing and that's exactly what happened. Their full forward was provided with some pinpoint passes and although our boys tried in vain, he was too smart and strong and became the difference between the two sides. At 3/4 time we were still in the game and only 4 goals down at the 5 minute mark, but then they flexed their muscles and ran over the top of us to win by 9 goals. Best players were Ricky Butler who continues with his good form, Alex Haughey tagged their best player out of the game, Adrian Wilson was solid both up forward and down back, Dan McGee won his position at half back and gave us plenty of drive, Shaun Gatto played his normal captains game and Heath and Matty A tried valiantly in the ruck all day. This week we face the undefeated Gaza at home, we still have 6 guys on the injured list and hope to get some of them back to bolster our stocks. Congratulations to Ricky Keen who played his 100th game on Saturday, well done Keeno. Yours in footy, Dusty

Saturday provided the Demons with our players and supporters a good chance of winning our first game and kicking our season off. The game was important to both clubs given the start to our seasons. TTG kicked the first two goals of the game then the Dees swung into motion and dominated for the rest of the quarter, we kicked 8 unanswered goals and lead by 5 goals at the first break. In the second quarter we went to sleep and TTG took control of the game, our commitment and ability to apply pressure totally fell away and they kicked 11 goals to our two for the quarter to lead by 3 goals at 1/2 time. The 3rd quarter was fairly even, goal for goal then they kicked the last couple to lead by 5 at 3/4 time. The Demons dominated the last quarter but couldn't apply much needed scoreboard pressure, TTG flooded our forward line which made it more difficult to score goals. Every time we kicked a goal and looked like coming home, TTG responded with quick responses. In the end we ran out of time and lost by 12 points. It was a disappointing loss, particularly after the start we had. Best players were Ricky Butler who dominated possessions in the centre, Heath Moloney dominated the rucks and provided the small guys with plenty of opportunities, Daniel Karpany kicked 3 goals and gave us much ground level cover up forward, Dan McGee played his best game for the year, Rick Keen won his wing and Sammy Biggs found some much needed form. Once again we must regroup and prepare for the clash with Goodie Saints down there on Saturday. Once again it was a case of one bad quarter costing us dearly, we must get mentally tougher and find some consistency. Yours in footy, Dusty.

A fine day confronted us for our G.F replay against arch rival PHOS Camden, they recruited 7 players in the off season and lost two so on paper they presented a stronger side than we met last year. From the outset we knew we were in for another tough day in the office with PHOS kicking into a stiff breeze and they controlled the first quarter to lead by about 3 goals at the first break.  In the second quarter PHOS continued their push forward and most of our endeavours forward were met with a very solid hard running defence. The Demons were about 7 goals down at half time and a huge effort was needed in the 3rd, taking into account they had the strong breeze again. To the boys credit we fought very hard and actually kicked 3 goals on the trot and only due to a couple of soft goals just prior to 3/4 time, the lead remained the same.  In the last quarter we went forward on many occasions, poor kicking in front of the sticks prevented us from limiting the score line, it appeared every time they went forward they scored at will.  The final margin was 53 pts, a disappointing result for the boys, they tried their hardest but we weren't good enough on the day. Best players were Alex Haughey who continues with his good form, Shaun Gatto played another great captains game, young Shawn Mansell showed glimpses of brilliance, Corey Coad was solid all day, and the two Ricks (Butler and Keen) were serviceable. The week off couldnt have come quick enough, 9 regular players will hopefully be available for our next must win clash with the Gullies at home. Yours in footy, Dusty

Another tough assignment on Saturday with the Demons taking on the Div1 reigning premiers Henley at home. Injuries and unavailability of 5 players once again tested our depth. The Dees jumped out and kicked the first goal and then Henley kicked into gear and kicked the next six so we found ourselves 30 odd points down at the first break. In the second quarter we stayed in touch with them going goal for goal and the difference remained the same. In the 3rd quarter and for the remainder of the game it was virtually goal for goal with the margin 39 points. The pleasing factor to take out of this game was our ability to get the ball, but the amount of turnovers is a major concern. We need to focus on controlling the footy and improve our basic skill level. This week we lock horns with PHOS again, they had a big win on the weekend and have up until now had the wood on us at their home ground. They also will think they have a point to prove with us beating them in the G.F. Best players on the weekend were Troy Gatto who continually plays on bigger taller forwards and does the job, Benny McGreen worked hard onball all day, Alex Haughey battled hard around half forward and onball, Kenny Mac prevented their full forward from kicking double figures and Adrian Wilson kicked 3 goals and had the ball on a string in the last quarter down back. It was Eastern Park's first home game of the season and it was always going to be tough against reigning premiers, the Henley Sharks. The Demons showed glimpses of last year's form but Henley were full of run and moved the ball fluently from defence and had a great target in Sam Phillipou at full forward.  He ended up with 6 for the day. In contrast we did not deliver the ball to our forwards well and as a consequence goals were hard to find. Adrian Wilson struggled but still ended up with 3 goals on the day with Sam Biggs chipping in with 2. Ben McGreen was great getting plenty of the ball around the ground and his disposal was good by hand and foot. One of the youngsters, Shawn Mansell showed plenty of pace and carried the ball through the lines, hitting up teammates with great disposal.
Another loss for the Dees but we were certainly not disgraced.  In the first two rounds of the season we have come up against the Div 1 runner up and premiers and we have shown we can match it them when we are on our game.  Hang in their Dees, our first win is just around the corner.

Welcome to all Demon supporters for our first round wrap up. First of all welcome to new B grade coach Marty Ryan, also a warm welcome to Steve Marr, Luke Ross, Heath and Sam Bruce from the Army, hope you enjoy yourselves fellas. To all other new additions to the club, welcome guys we hope you enjoy your stay at the club. Our first historical game in Division one was against last years Runners Up Sacred Heart away. A fine day presented itself at Sacred Heart Oval, we went into the game minus many stars from last year including, Craig Taylor-Port, Zac Millar Maitland, Flex Hamilton-Nuriootpa, Peter Dempsey-Renmark, Adam Walasek-work, Docker-Birdwood and Blake Moore-Ingle Farm. A great opportunity for younger and new guys to play some quality football. The opening couple of minutes were torrid, both teams trying to ascertain their authority, Sacred Heart lead at 1/4 time by about 14 pts. In the second quarter Sacred Heart came out with all guns blazing, their running and skill work was too good for us and at half time they lead by about 7 goals. In the 3rd quarter we came out and got settled into the style of play. We outscored them and probably should have been closer on the scoreboard at 3/4 time. In the final stanza both sides started to tire and both benches were stretched to the limit, Sacred Heart ended up winning 14.13 to 7.7. Eastern Park were far from disgraced and showed a lot of character particularly after the main break. Best players on the day were Shaun Gatto, Alan Harvey, Matty Paul, Mozza and Gav Burckett. This week we face the reigning premiers Henley at home, bring it on. Yours in footy Dusty

In their debut game in Div 1, Eastern Park faced last year's grand finalist, Sacred Heart OC.  It was certainly a challenge for the Parkers who showed glimpses of their premiership form.  With the loss of several key players from last season it was always going to be an ask for the boys, but they showed on many occasions they were able to match it with the Div 1 team. Sacred Heart were too good in this round but there is sure to be improvement in the Demons as the season continues. The score: Sacred Heart OC 14.13 97 def Eastern Park 7.7 49.  Dusty will share his comments a little later in the next day or so.
